17 Illegal Afghan Nationals Arrested

Islamabad: Police in the federal capital have arrested 17 Afghan nationals allegedly residing illegally in Pakistan during a targeted operation in the Bari Imam area.

According to details, the operation was carried out following intelligence reports about the presence of undocumented Afghan citizens. The raid was led by SP City, with Islamabad Police successfully surrounding the area and detaining the suspects.

A spokesperson for the Islamabad Police confirmed that the arrested individuals had tried to resist the operation, but officers managed to control the situation efficiently.

All detained Afghan nationals will be deported after the completion of legal proceedings, police officials stated.

Authorities added that the crackdown against illegally residing foreigners in the capital will continue to ensure law and order.

In recent weeks, the federal government has intensified its drive against undocumented Afghan residents, reiterating that only those with valid visas and documents will be allowed to stay in Pakistan.

During a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif last week, it was revealed that as of October 16, more than 1.47 million Afghan nationals had been repatriated to Afghanistan. The government has also expanded border crossing points to expedite the repatriation process.

The Taliban government in Afghanistan has announced the release of an American citizen, Amir Amiri.

According to the Afghan Foreign Ministry, Amiri was handed over to Adam Boehler, the U.S. Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs. Boehler had paid an unusual visit to Kabul earlier this month, during which prisoner exchange discussions were held with Taliban officials.

In its statement, the ministry said that the Taliban does not view civilian cases through a political lens but prefers resolving matters through diplomacy and dialogue.

Foreign sources noted that limited information has been shared about Amir Amiri’s case, and the issue was not widely reported in international media.
